A Dave Ramsey Meal

December 16th, 2006 at 05:08 pm

We had a Dave Ramsey meal today for lunch.

You guessed it, we had beans and rice. Wasn't because we wanted a cheap meal more I wanted a quick and easy meal. It was okay. I really prefer it made with the chili beans from Aldi rather than regular kidney beans. I didn't get go all out on this meal either. Organic Brown Rice from Trader Joes and a can of kidney beans. Had I been in "frugal form" I'd have cooked the beans from dry and the rice from a great big bag of oriental long grain rice.

We might balance it with a meal out tonight! We are spending the day being good consumers and will be doing a pile'o'Christmas shopping.

If you don't hear from me again its because I'm the one that went postal in the mall. I really am not much for shopping at this time of year.

I don't like to shop either, especially with crowds. I'd rather not give gifts and just have a party or something different. I'm pretty much done with shopping, yeah!

I did something different for Christmas this year. I got burnt out of buying my son's birthday gifts and a birthday celebration, then have to turn around and do the Christmas shopping on a limited budget too. Grrr! So I combined the birthday with everyone's Christmas gifts(we all exchanged just one gift each). For Christmas, I spent only $15 for 2 gift bags full of Christmas goodies(cordial cherries, cookies, chocolate santas, bags of trail mix, chips, etc). I got to the Dollar store at exactly the right time(lots of food items marked down to $1 and still very fresh)
So the goodie bags, and a nice Christmas dinner will be our Christmas this year, instead of too much anticipation, worry over gifts will be liked, holiday stress, too much letdown which nearly always ends in the boys picking a fight with each other or picking a fight with mom and dad. I'm still doing outside decorations, and some inside decorations, but no Christmas tree. I figure dress up the kitchen table with a nice Christmas tablecloth, some decorative candles and candle wreaths, a wall display of ornaments both in the kitchen and in the front room, and that will be enough decorating. I think I just might like Christmas more this year.

Don't forget to add in herbs and spices and stuff like tomatoes or apple cider vinegar to give it an extra kick
