Passwords.

March 1st, 2007 at 01:59 pm

Off the top of my head:

At work - 5 passwords (phone, email, internet, server and mainframe). All change randomly at different times.

Phone - only one I can think of

Banking - a whole bunch - debit card, credit card, savings account, phone banking, interent banking

Computer, Email and Web - lets not even go there okay? Wireless, yahoo, email, this website that website.

We aren't supposed to write any down. We aren't supposed to duplicate them and they are supposed to be all random letters and numbers with funny capitalization.

Any wonder I have to call the bank tomorrow to ask them to issue this dolthead a new password cause I did too many wrong tries and locked myself out of the site?

Yeah okay. Anyone have any good (and relatively secure) suggestions? My brain is full, if you know what I mean.

I eventuall had to go with 3/5 index cards for each account. It is sort of good because you can put all info there. On the top left side, I put the name of the institution. On the far right hand side, I note down whether it is a bank, credit card, utility, internet security. I write this User name below and the password below it. I also not down the account number and the telephone number ( 1-800). On the back of the card, I write all of the security questions and answers. This has made my life so much easier. We also have a card for my husband with the same information on it.

There are times that they change their systems and you can just destroy the old card. Hope this helps.

    That's a lot of passwords.

I use an universal password for things that I don't really worry about (such as this forum), but my online bank accounts, for example, have unique ones. To keep track of them, I also have a software that stores them all, and I retrieve them whenever I need it.

I write all my passwords down on one sheet of paper. There are a few variations since some sites require more digits than others.

That being said, i must confess i didn't find it too hard to hack into an old boyfriend's email once, cus he was not very imaginative nor cautious about making up passwords. And my oh my i learned a lot about him, including an extreme fondness for trading porn pix with his buddies during the workday.

I use an Internet address organizer book that I bought through Current last year. Before that, I had them all written down on a sheet of paper, but I find the alphabetized book easier to use. I know, I know...if anyone ever steals my book, I'm screwed, but I have to keep track somehow. I'm taking my chances Smile
