Inside voices?

October 16th, 2007 at 01:40 am

At a restaurant tonight.

A couple with two preschoolers was in the restaurant at the other side of it. I got to listen to their kids both as they talked and as they tossed ...erflung madly against the wall toys in the small kids area that was tucked to the far side of the section.

I gather the entire concept of inside voices vs playground voices is passe? So is, as far as I can tell the entire concept of playing quietly

I payed, with tip, almost $30 for my meal. I really would have liked it a tad quieter. Yes this is a family friendly restaurant but still..

Did you mention it the wait person? I would have.

I did before I left and she said that is how parents do things these days. She didn't seem happy about it but was professional and said its part of the job for her

Well, as a mother of 3 toddlers, it is quite hard to keep them quiet, entertained, and well behaved. Granted, we are working on it, but maybe instead of complaining you could have encouraged the parents. My children are better behaved than most, but on the off chance that they're having an off day and we're out, and they must eat, we'll try our best to use inside voices. Learning is a process for children as well as adults.

Yeah, I see both sides. My kids are pretty well behaved and we are often complimented when we go out. BUT I don't think my 4yo has the concept of an "inside voice", though we try to work on it EVERY DAY. LOL.

& even the best children will have their off days - for sure.

But overall sounds like a restuarant to avoid. Simple solution.

I was across the room from the parents, I would have had to walk past about 4 other tables between me and them to comment or assist them - I was not at the table beside them. They basically sat there at the table and ate while the kids were in the playroom yelling and tossing stuff.

Most parents are a little more proactive than these folks were - normally I'm not bothered by kids being kids - it was really more the parents attitude that did it to me - they didn't seem to care what their kids did.
