Broke - But the Cat is okay

September 30th, 2006 at 01:38 am

Well okay for a 23 year old cat. He passed on his tests other than UREA - which he has way too much of. Oh and he's also got arthritis (though he called it something else) in his spine. So he's on prescription food (anyone know of a cheap way to get Hills KD prescription cat food?), some vitamins, and 2 types of tablets and he goes back to the vets in 3 weeks.

The food and meds and a couple of the tests all ran to another $150. Having pets is EXPENSIVE.

He's back home. He adores the food and is eating up a storm. Now to get him to poop in the litter box. I might have to buy something with shallower sides that he can get into easier. I'm going to check at the dollar store Smile The original use doesn't need to be for pets.

My wallet is way lighter but I'm blessed by having my finances in order such that I can do this without credit or anything like that.

I'm off to snuggle with Mao Smile)

One of our dogs is on Hills Canine CD. So far I only see it at the vets. And its expensive. But LOTS cheaper than the surgery she had to have to save her before she was put on it! I guess I can't have it both ways.

No idea about saving on food, just writing good wishes to your cat. Mine is 19, and he too is not the kitten he used to be.

23 years young! WOW!!! The DW and I have spent more for our dog's medical bills than we have on ourselves in the last five years. It was worth every penny for the joy he brings into our life. We love him to pieces! (trying not ot sound like a mush here.)

The medications for his allergies get quite expensive. Again, he is worth it!

I especially love the sad eyes when he wants attention. He is quite the character.

Look at the pet food prices on Pet FoodDirect at Amazon.com

A link for Hill products there is:
    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hg/103-0810581-2379030?url=me%3DAKH31J7CYXLE6&field-keywords=hill

My experience was that the price was literally one-third of the local price, even if adding in shipping. That is not a typo! Their undiscounted "list" price seems to be lower than the price in my neighborhood. AND I got a 35-pound bag of dog food delivered to my door, when I typically would only carry home a 5 or 8 pound bag to spare my back. The "Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul" has wonderful ingredients, ranks tops in nutrition, and does not contain the sugar-equivalents which many manufacturer's add to appeal to doggy sweet teeth (we're in the plural form here). The line includes cat food. And my dog, a very discerning eater, loves this stuff!

Take a look because I found it a real source of savings, as well as wonderfully convenient. Am re-ordering today. I have no relationship to the site, by the way.
