Kmart Rant

I think K-mart needs to look at how they provide customer service to customers.

The store near here is bright, clean and well staffed. Prices seem good.

Too bad the many staff members they have spend the time being bored and not serving customers.

One till open at 4:30 pm this evening. That is it for the entire store. I line up behind the 10 or so other people in line. The staff member wandering around ambles over to find the missing cashier - they were over in the corner having a chat. Finally a new cash opens up and the line gets a bit smaller.

This new cash that I end at has three staff members manning it. Granted one was new and other other was training. The third person there moping about was going on about being bored. I just looked at her and said "you won't be so bored if you work". She shut up after that and didn't look at me and quickly vanished.

It is pathetic. The store is almost empty and its not so that you are in and out of the cash-out area in like 2 minutes. If I knew Kmart wasn't crowded and had no lines I'd be shopping there more. I hate lines.

Senior management there need to spend less time hiring consultants and more time getting back to the nuts and bolts of how to run a successful retail operation. It isn't rocket science. Just make it easy for me to spend my money.

    You see this in a lot of stores lately. Bored teenagers. They had a special JCPenney sale last Sunday night about 8:30 I was checking out. One slow moving cashier and 4 associates standing around chatting. No wonder you could'nt find anyone in the department to help. I wondered where the manager was!
    If business is'nt that busy, these managers ought to put in self checkout. It would probably be faster!

    I know this was posted a while back, but here is my rant in response to yours:

    You don't know what it is like working there, so dont be a jerk and tell people who are bored to work when there is absolutely nothing to do! The Kmart company in itself is just pathetic and the reason why no one shops there, hence the bored employees who wander around the empty store and are told to straighten everything perfectly as if it will cause more customers, rather than helping them. Yeah, the customer service sucks ass, but it is not necissarily the sole employees fault everytime. Employees aren't trained, if they're lucky they'll get a tape about nothing informative, just common sence wraped up in a cheap 80's video. Employees only get taught how to use a register basics from another employee, then from there everything is learn-as-you-go. The company always pulls shit that makes everyone pissed, customers and employees alike, with loopholes, fine print, or just idiotic, misleading deals. When you are in the front, it is REALLY boring. People come and go one at a time for you to ring them up; as soon as you go to do something though, like work on returns, a huge line of people comes up... There just isnt a constant flow of customers, its either no one or everyone at once. The whole store is just plain un-organized due to lack of resorces and employees; lack of funds. Please do not always blame the employees, blame the damn company and never shop there again, I know that there are employees at kmart stores that work their ass off only to get treated like this from customers who are mad at them for reasons far beyond their control.
