Car Repairs are Expensive!!

October 17th, 2007 at 11:06 pm

My car is in the shop. It is a 2000 Saturn with nearly 200,000km on it so things are starting to wear out and go wrong.

I know intellectually that repairing it is cheaper than buying new but its so tempting to just get a new car and not pay huge repair bills.

I am told the car should be ready for pick up tomorrow night. And I should be nearly $700 poorer.

Yikes

Yikes, sorry to hear! I dropped 2K on my car this summer due to a broken transmission mount, a destroyed clutch due to a leaking transmission (AGAIN???), and the starter that didn't survive the ordeal. Yes, you read that right that this is the second time I've had to replace a clutch due to a transmission leaking on it. Didn't really go over well with me. My car is a 1998 Jetta with 157K+ miles on it and a completely shot suspension. I'm trying to figure out where to draw the line with it myself. I can't afford a car payment right now and the maintenance on this car is currently cheaper. It's just at the point where parts are old and wearing out. It happens to all cars eventually...
Oh, and my check engine light has been on for three years! Yes, I know what's "wrong" with it and I'm convinced the car is lying to me. Can't be bothered - I know my car well enough to know when something is really wrong!

I just blew $2000 on a vette with only 40,000 miles, so i feel your pain. It was just a fuel pump, but the whole car had to be taken apart to get to it!

WHOA! 2K for a fuel pump???????
Please tell my DH not to hate my Jetta anymore!
Actually, he stopped with the comments when I pointed out that if his car breaks - it's not covered by a warranty AND has car payments.
Still shaking my head at 2K for a fuel pump...
