I agree with Tina and Lux.
We went there for coffee a couple of weeks ago. I wanted my cheap gas station coffee but starbucks is on the way. Yuck. The stuff tastes bad.
I can't say much about their business practises. What I can say is when we go get a coffee at work there is a starbucks about the same distance from the office as the Second Cup and Timmies. We each have our favourite between those two but no one ever even suggests going to Starbucks.
Strangely I don't know anyone who is a big starbucks fan. Maybe folks go there in secret?
Starbucks yuck!

I did buy a nice big jug of one of their syrups at the scratch n' dent store for $2.00 once. That was pretty tasty.

starbucks does the ambiance thing very well, and they have a lot of locations inside chain bookstores (big non-local business pairing up w/ big non-local business, go figure!).
my biggest gripe with them other than their coffee are their desserts: how can a triple chocolate jet-black *anything* taste like nothing but flour? how is it possible, i ask? such a let down.

Ive tried all three and at alll three Ive had coffee I like and coffee I didnt like. I think it depends on the brista, personally.
I used to be a $2.50 a day mocha-holic...but these days, I brew my own (folgers) and a little vanilla cremer and I am a happy camper. ...and I save a bundle!!

However, I do agree about the ambience. I'd love to have that kind of atmosphere... in my own house some day!
